AIMS AND PRINCIPLES

The Citizens' Advice Bureau in Swale is a charity serving the communities of Faversham, Sheppey and Sittingbourne and the surrounding countryside - a population of more than 120,000 living in a deprived area of North Kent.

Objects of the Charity

The objects of the Charity are to promote any charitable purpose for the benefit of the community in Swale and the neighbourhood thereof (“the area of benefit”), by the advancement of education, the protection and preservation of health and the relief of poverty, sickness and distress.

The Bureau is a member of Citizens Advice, the national association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, all of whose members adhere to the following aims and principles.

Aims

To ensure that individuals do not suffer:

  • through lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities,
  • or of the services available to them;
  • or through an inability to express their needs effectively.

To use clients' experiences to exercise a responsible influence on the development of social policies and services, both nationally and locally.

Principles

The principles of the service are that for all clients it is:
  • confidential
  • impartial
  • free
  • independent.
